Medium-sized older guardian statue, Nepal, ca 1960
OverviewMedium-sized guard statue from Nepal
An object cannot be more honest!! An older, somewhat battered guard statue with an archaic head, if I may say so. Also has something of a Philippine Bulul or an image from Africa or Indonesia. Personally, it really fascinates me… how certain forms in completely different cultures show similarities with each other. A bit battered as I already mentioned. The statue has been very close to the fire, which is visible. Also some soot on the statue. I leave it exactly as it is because I don't want to spoil the character! I did have a round wooden base made for it. The statue was with its hands folded in the Namaskara greeting posture before the damaged occured.
These types of images can be found everywhere in Nepal at bridges, the entrance to a village, at the largest tree, a washing place, but also at private houses and on a home altar. This probably stood in a private house close to the cooking and heating area.
