Hard wooden doll/fertility doll, ZARAMO, Tanzania, 1970-80

A beauty! this stylistically strong statue of the Zaramo. A multi-functional pot, but also a fertility statue that was carried by young women. Heavy hard wood with a beautiful deep  patina. The face is both refined and powerful in appearance with an open headdress and striking white eyes made of white glass paste beads. Obvious traces of use.
It is nice to note that the younger items from Zaramo are aesthetically much more beautiful than the older ones. This also applies to this beautiful object. Very attractive and strong in appearance in contrast to the somewhat crude older ones that are less appealing as far as I am concerned.
