Large fetish protection statue, FON Boccio, Benin, ca 1970

Very strong statue of this Fon Boccio protection statue. Hard wood, heavy too, but at the bottom as visible as a pole statue, eaten away by insects. By the way, it is free of bugs! Images like these were used for various purposes such as protection for a journey in progress, protection of the family, protection against disaster in general, etc. The nose, mouth and eyes are made with minimal interventions while the expression is convincing and strong! Under the cloth there is all kinds of things such as a few metal strips, rope, straw and other natural fibers. The blue piece of cloth, symbolizing spirituality, is taped to the mouth. The statue is placed on a base. The statue was certainly made in the tribe, but I am not convinced of the ritual use and therefore offer it for a very low price. By the way, a beautiful Fon statue full of character!
