Janus altar statue, BAMBARA, Mali, ca 1970

Hard wooden Janus altar statue from the Bambara. Special in this form! with a double ancestor figure on top. The connection to the lower heads looks like an abstract body decorated with geometric figurations. Very hard type of wood with shrinkage cracks here and there. Varied patina and placed on a base.
