Old tribal statue, Tchamba/Temba Kotokol, Togo, 1950-60

Objects from the Tchamba or Temba Kotokol are only offered on a small scale. This is a beautiful example of a female ancestor statue. Simple, rudimentary, earthy, yet with elegance. The statue is carved from a light wood. The varied patina is appropriate for age and use. The statue is glued to a base. Look carefully at the photos.
