Older statue of the LEGA, DR Congo, 1960-70

Striking appearance that shows the LEGA from the DR Congo. A male head on a tapered neck. A remarkably smooth sculpture with a sharp look, a medium brown color and dented sculpted spots in the patina, partly dark in colour. Remnants of white clay around the nose and on top some traces of offerings. Statues like this played a part in wedding ceremonies with the aim of protecting the couple from harm. Good condition.
