Old authentic tribal altar statue, YORUBA, Nigeria, ca. 1970
A striking appearance is this altar statue of the Yoruba from Nigeria. Solid wooden block with three hollow "pipes" on top. On the round side three human figures and 2 birds. Striking is that the piece is so colorful over the entire image. Here and there is damage, broken arm, termite damage from use and aging. Therefore, take a good look at the photos that show everything well. The Yoruba have a wide variety of statues and masks. I submitted this image to an expert on the Yoruba. He too had never seen a statue like this before. It is therefore a mystery why those three hollow "pipes" are on it. A rare item for the collector of authentic tribal pieces!
