Tribal necklace, priest collar, PALANPAGANG, Ifugao, Philippines
Tribal necklace called Palanpagang. It is a priest collar, always composed of sometimes large, worked pieces of mother-of-pearl. This necklace has nine pieces of mother-of-pearl. These necklaces are worn by men of the Ifugao tribe and the Kalinga tribe. The pieces of mother-of-pearl show different colors depending on the angle you look at them from. Difficult to photograph. Much nicer in reality!! The pieces of mother-of-pearl are sometimes unworked; others carry a single line with fine engraving or multiple lines with very fine engraving like this one. The cord is made of woven rattan. This necklace is in good condition.
