Extraordinarily expressive, old, tribal illness mask (maladie) of the Congolese PENDE tribe. Masks like these were used during rituals aimed at the healing or preventing of diseases. Strong, emphatic facial features, great depth and between the lines, remnants of white kaolin colouring. With traces of use and aging, this mask is in good condition.
