Zoomorphic BAULE mask, Ivory Coast, 2nd half 20th century
A peculiar way of appearing for a BAULE mask, this zoomorphic mask with both human and animal characteristics. The ears seem to be from a hare. On top four horns, underlining its power. The face is serene with nearly closed eyes. Remarkable is the opened mouth, shaped like a kite. Pretty, crusty patina with great colour nuances. Both harmonious and contrasting mask, with slight traces of use and aging, finding itself in good condition.
