Worked bone fetish, LEGA tribe, D.R. Congo, mid-20th century
Worked bone protection fetish of the Congolese LEGA tribe. Statues like these were used in the family and served as protection against witchcraft, disease and evil in general. It represents a seated person with hands folded before the body. The serene head is both powerful and modest. Pretty patina due to use and aging and overall it is in good condition.
