Big, African bronze leopard, BENIN, region Benin City, approx. 1970
Beautiful, big and detailed bronze leopard from the Benin tribe, regio Benin City in Nigeria. Ever since the 16th century, the Benin are known for their prestigious bronze statue. This tradition is continuing to date. This is a pretty piece! Great detail and depth. The leopard symbolises courage and strength and it is a recurring theme in many statues. Slight traces of use and aging, and a few wholes occurred during the moulding process. All in all, it is in good condition though. It is superbly styled with great detail and an artistic, curled tail.
