Big, heavy statue of the rice god BULUL, Ifugao, Philippines, 1970-80
Big, heavy hardwood statue of BULUL, god of rice of the Ifugao tribe from the Philippines. This one plays an important role in the daily life of the Ifugao community, in the north of the Philippines. Nearly every family has one or more of such statues. Bulul is present in many rituals. Old pieces of the Ifugao are scarce and often very pricey. This statue was directly collected from a family from Banau. It is in the same condition in which it was collected, not cleaned. A beautiful, primitive statue. Because of good links within the Ifugao community, I have been able to buy a couple of gorgeous pieces. This is one of them. An affordable statue for the lover of primitive, authentic tribal objects!
