Wonderful, older protection statue, TEKE tribe, D.R. Congo, 1960-70
Excellently sculpted older protection statue of the Congolese TEKE tribe from the D.R. Congo. On top is a cavity filled with secret ingredients that are supposed to protect against witchcraft and evil in general. The cavity is covered with cloth and there are some metal pieces put into it. The protection is taken care of by a nganga, some sort of wizard. The metal pieces that are put into it, are accompanied by speels. A statue with a soul and truly beautiful use and aging patina. The statue is neatly mounted on a stand, which is easily lifted off.
