Big, old fetish protection statue, EWE tribe, Togo, mid-20th century
A really nice one! This is an old fetish protection statue of the EWE tribe in Togo. On top, there is a hole in its head, in which all kinds of substances are poured during rituals. The eyes are made of cowrie shells, a somewhat crusty patina on the head. Around the body, which is, as you can see, not worked out any further, there is a rag of cloth, partly covered with cowrie shells. The statue is neatly mounted on a stand.
