Big, expressive mask, CHOKWE tribe, Angola, 2nd half 20th century
Big, expressive facial mask of the Angolese Chokwe tribe, contrasting and harmonic. A dark-brown face with nearly closed, almond-shaped eyes, a metal ring through its nose, and slender, red lips. Its eyebrows, forehead are carved higher, with geometric figures in white kaolin colour. On top, it has dreadlocks, braided of natural fibres.
