Overview

This refined tribal spoon is a magnificent example of the functional art of the Senufo people from Ivory Coast. With a length of 25.5 cm, this object is not only an aesthetic masterpiece for the collector but also a tangible piece of West African history.

The most striking feature is the exquisitely carved handle, surmounted by an anthropomorphic face. The characteristic linear, pointed beard and the geometric diamond patterns on the handle are iconographically typical of the Senufo style. These motifs often refer to spiritual guardians and the prestige associated with feeding the community within the Poro societies.

The object exhibits a beautiful, authentic patina. The deep, weathered color on the reverse side and the soft wear on the cutting edges of the bowl bear witness to decades of ceremonial history. A powerful object that seamlessly combines craftsmanship and spirituality.
