This vintage Thai marionette is an impressive artwork, measuring an impressive 95 cm in length, with a beautifully hand-carved wooden head. Originally, this type of marionette was used in traditional Thai puppet theater (Hun Krabok/Yoke The), where mythological stories and scenes from the Ramakien (Thai Ramayana) were performed. Using strings and rods, the puppet came to life during religious and royal ceremonies.
Costume & Decoration
The marionette’s costume is exceptionally elaborate. It is entirely hand-embroidered and adorned with gold thread, beads, sequins, and inlaid stones that shimmer beautifully in the light. The patterns and details reference royal court attire, giving the puppet a majestic appearance. The tall, finely crafted crown and graceful shoulder ornaments emphasize its status as a princely or mythical character.
