Namaskara Mudra Statue – Nepal | Antique Wooden Buddhist Sculpture 68 cm
OverviewNamaskara Mudra Greeting Statue – Nepal – 68 cm – Hardwood
This unique wooden statue from Nepal depicts a figure in the Namaskara Mudra, the traditional gesture of greeting in which the hands are joined in prayer position at the chest. This mudra symbolizes respect, devotion, and the recognition of the divine essence within oneself and others. The gesture is globally recognized as the spiritual greeting Namasté.
Carved from solid hardwood, the piece has a raw, natural presence. Signs of oxidation in the wood indicate that it dates from before 1950. The deep grain and rough texture give it an authentic, archaic charm. The head may have been recarved at a later stage, while the protrusion on top might once have held ornaments or jewelry, underlining its possible ceremonial function.
Such Nepalese wooden sculptures are often found at temple entrances, household shrines, and ritual spaces, where they welcome visitors and offer protection. With its height of 68 cm and impressive presence, this antique Buddhist statue carries both spiritual and decorative power. It is mounted on a finely crafted, custom-made wooden base.
This Namaskara Mudra statue is not only a powerful symbol of connection and spirituality, but also a unique collectible for lovers of Nepalese art, ethnographic artifacts, and Buddhist ritual art.
